Okay, for anyone who is wondering what the 2 videos are that I posted last night, here is the explanation.
IT IS A COUGAR!!!!!! Yes, a cougar in our back field. Unfortunately it would have been illegal for Robert to shoot it because he doesn't have a cougar tag and it wasn't acting threatening. Our neighbor who was also watching it with us did have a cougar tag and a shot gun in hand, but his wife convinced him not to shoot (she thought it was too cute).
I was upstairs opening Nathan's bedroom window and happened to look down into our field and was shocked at the size of this big cat roaming around. I ran downstairs to have my Mom look outside to see it and our eyes got bigger and bigger as we started to realize it wasn't just a big cat. Oh, what a churn of the stomach I had. Not 2 hours before, we had a yard full of kids running around (some of whom, Nicholas included, were running around in the field). Robert ran upstairs and grabbed his gun and I immediately called our neighbors to have them get their kids inside and have their gun (I knew he had a cougar tag). Robert, Al and our neighbors all stood at our back fence armed and watching and the dang cat just walked around, sprayed in the tall grass in the corner of the field then layed down in the shadow of a bale of hay for about 10 minutes before getting up and walking out a hole in the back fence (see video). I am so glad that our grass in our field was cut and baled at the end of this last week. It freaks me out to think of how many times that thing could have been in our field hiding in the long grass. I guess if there is anything to ease my mind about that it would be the fact that cougars don't stay in one place for very long (umm, nope, mind not eased that much). I spoke to the guy from Fish and Wildlife this morning and he gave me a bunch of info about cougars and their habits. The result of that conversation was a call from me to Robert insisting that he get a cougar tag today because we will not let a cougar leave our yard alive again. We just can't take the chance. Agree? So anyway, that is our scary excitement for now and the explanation for the videos.
